okay so part of building aself-sustainable homestead for us isalso trying to figure out ways togenerate income from the homestead sothat we can continue to have thehomestead and grow it as many of youknow we’ve got a few Kuna Kuni pigs thatwe plan to harvest in the fall and oneof our thoughts one of our the thingsthat we’re trying to figure out rightnow is how we can possibly do somefarmers markets we definitely are goingto try and sell some of the meat butwe’re looking at farmer’s markets andthings like that and possibly like alittle mobile kitchen set up where wecould do pig roasts and things like thatnow one of the components of this littlemobile idea that I have is this and wewill talk about this in another videobut this is a big part of it you’rewatching the channel for a while and youknow that over the winter when we firstmoved here we had to put ourrefrigerator outside because it wastrying to run all the time with the woodstove right beside it and so it waskilling our batteries and our solarsystem so we moved it outside and itworked great the problem was the freezerwouldn’t freeze because you have to havean ambient temperature of like 65degrees in order for the freezer on topof the frigerator to actually freezeeven though the refrigerator was coldenough we couldn’t freeze anything andso we needed ice we use a lot of ice andcouldn’t keep ice now our refrigeratoris back in side and the freezer worksperfectly a lot of times a brand willreach out to us and ask us to check outone of the products they’ll send us aproduct try and you know make a videoabout it if you like it and most of thetime we sort of decline these becausethe product or the service that theyoffer isn’t really relevant to us wewouldn’t really use it and so wewouldn’t recommend it to someone elsebut there was one company to reach outto us that I did want to try theirproduct because of this idea that I havefor this mobile kitchen thing and I’mgoing to show it to you this issupposedly a portable clear ice maker itmakes perfectly clear drink ice is froma company called new air supposedlymakes 40 pounds a day 24 pieces percycle plug-and-play you just put waterin itmakes the first batch of ice in likenine minutes so we’re gonna put it tothe test and see if it actually got usthe reason I wanted this a lot of peoplewill say why don’t you just buy a bunchof bags ice and hook loop it in a coolerall day well I could do that but we wantto be completely mobile and completelyautonomous because we may be in a placethat doesn’t have ice or it’s out in themiddle of nowhere in the boonies and weneed to have a completely self-containedthing all right so what we’re gonna dois unpack this I don’t know anythingabout it I’m gonna just see if we coulduse it right out of the box withoutdoing too much messing around well I’dlike to be able to do hook this up to asmall battery bank in the back of thetruck with an inverter right with thefreezers on everything we need to runokay this weighs 24 pounds draws 1.6amps when it’s making ice draws twopoints exams when it’s harvesting iceknow what harvesting ice means but we’regonna find out this is the stainlesssteel model comes with this blueprotective film on it which is probablygood to protect the stainless but it’s alittle pan you get off that one too it’seasier on the frontlike how small it is so you can easilyset this up as a little little mobilekitchen deal so you just pour water inthere and hit it hit the on button Iguess oh here we go then little icecubes perfect little cubes of ice comeout of there and like I said supposedlyit makes perfectly clear drink ice gotyou little bucket and a little scoop allright I got it unpacked we have to letthe sit for an hour because to let therefrigerant settle because I was aheadof on its side and upside down as I wastrying to pull it out you don’t want tojust plug this in and run it sameapplies to anything that’s like arefrigerator or freezer but set for anhour let the refrigerant settle to thebottom and you’ll be good to go so we’llbe back in about an hourit’s been about an hour you’re going toplug this into the watt meter just seewhat x equals and the water in it andsee what happensall right I’m just gonna fill this takesless than a gallon now this reservoirdreams down into here in the bottom ofthis basket and that helps chill thewhole container all right so that’s kindof filled up that little reservoir nowI’m going to top it off should be goodto gotip it on now how you do is hold thebutton for five seconds until it turnssolid green little fan turned onwho’s doing stuff it says it draws 1.6while it’s making icelooks like 1.4 and just started it soI’m gonna start the timer see how longit takes to actually dump the firstbatch of ice okay it’s been 20 almost 22minutes and this thing just changedstarted making a different noise whichI’m thinking means harvest mode so it’sdone with its first batch it’s about itdump it in amperage jumped up to 1.95 itfell so just dump the first batch downinto the ice tray and then the amperageis dropping so that little harvest modethat it goes through and it has to dumpthat ice out into the bucket increasesyour draw to almost two amps what’sdoing bad it’s less than what it says inthe book so now we’re get back down toin half and a half so it took about 20minutes for the first cycle to completeand it dumped the ice down into thebasket and each subsequent cycle shouldtake a lot less time now becauseeverything’s cold so I’m going to pullout some of the ice look and see if it’sactually clear okay now we’re gonna testand see if this is clear compared toregular ice now we always use our springwater filtered through a burr key soit’s pretty good waterhow does a regular ice cube but from anice cube traylet’s try one of these cool skull cubesthat Randy sent us very clearit looks awesome thoughnow let’s try one of these from thisgadget very clearthanks pretty good20 minutes ice[Music]okay this is a cola with regular icethis is a Cola with an ice makerlooks pretty clear to mewell does what it says it does makes icemakes really clear drink ice and I likeit I think this thing all is becauseit’s so small it will fit perfectly intothe little outfit that I’m gonna makefor the truck and we can make ice on thego hook it up to an inverter along withthe freezer and some other gadgets andwe’re going to add and so we’re good sowe’ll see how that works in the meantimethey sent us a coupon code if you wantto check it out and get one for yourselfyou can use the code GB farm and get 15%off update links below for all that andthen go make some drinks we’ll see youin the next video thanks for watching

  1. I think frozen salt water is best for your purpose. Fresh water ice starts to thaw at a similar temperature to what you’re typically trying to keep frozen. They thaw together. Frozen salt water starts to thaw first at a temperature still below 0. During that thaw it absorbs a lot of heat while what you’re trying to keep frozen stays frozen. It’s also very inexpensive. It requires a good container so it doesn’t break and leak, that could be a 2L pop bottle. And it costs the salt once and the energy to refreeze it on an ongoing basis. That’s about it. You can buy expensive products that work on the same principle. They typically don’t even tell you what they contain. But a few 2L bottles of frozen ice water in an insulated box works well. Placing them in a removable or slide-able tray(s) over the frozen goods inside the insulated box would be best. If you test it out you might be surprised by how well it works.

  2. I have a very similar portable ice maker. I find to speed it up, I toss the first batch or two of ice into the reservoir for the water. Once the water is nice and chilled it fires off ice quickly. Sacrificing the first batch or so seems to speed it up rather quickly.

  3. I am planning a food truck and I’m curious about the ice. Was it watery because of the air temp outside or does the machine not freeze it solid? Watery ice will ruin coffee drinks.

  4. I guess the discount code was limited time, It now says invalid code on any of the ice makers that are in stock, most of the models on their website are out of stock.

  5. You may not need to buy an ice machine to achieve clear ice. Just boil some water and then freeze it and it should be clear.

  6. How’s the Ice maker doing? In the market for one and would like to hear your opinion after using it for a while. Thanks!

  7. YOU ARE LIKE MY BRO, HE LIVES IN BAJA, CA AREA . I HAVE SAME EXACT MODEL AN I USE ALL DAY.. I FOUND THAT DAMP TOWEL(S) ON OUTSIDE ON ANY OF ICE AREA(S).. MADE IT WORK WAY BETTER.. the part where buttons are waterproof cover ,. I USE BASIC FILTER TAP WATER ( that plastic water top tube w small holes got slimy..). ALSO THE BACK GETS EXTRA AIR FROM FANS .. I POUR WATER IN FRONT TO BASKET BOTTOM OR LITTLE MORE. (THE TOP RESERV WARMS UP AN I LEAVE IT OPEN WITH SOME WATER STANDING (PLUGGED..). WE HAD BIG FREEZER LIKE THAT IN OUR VERY COLD GARAGE AN MY MOM WOULD COVER TOP LID INSULATE IT MORE..
